Caravan Part Broken Before a Trip? Here’s What to Do

Caravan problems have a habit of showing up right before a trip. After months of sitting idle, parts that looked fine last season suddenly fail when the caravan is moved.

The most common last-minute issues we see include collapsed jockey wheels, worn or cracked couplings, damaged safety chains, and electrical plugs pulled loose. These aren’t cosmetic problems — they’re safety-critical and legally required components.

What catches people out is trying to make temporary fixes. Strapping a jockey wheel, welding a chain, or forcing a worn coupling to “hold” can turn a small issue into a serious risk on the road.

If a caravan part fails, the first step is not to tow until it’s assessed. Couplings and chains are designed to handle specific loads, and once compromised, they can fail without warning.

Because we stock common caravan components and carry trusted brands (including Jayco-compatible parts and ARB accessories), we can often replace or repair these items quickly. Our workshop handles repairs in-house, and for DIY customers, we provide the correct parts and advice to fix it properly.

If your trip is coming up and something doesn’t feel right, come in early. We’ll tell you honestly what can be fixed today and what needs attention before you tow.
